Root angle of winter wheat might be an important morphological trait for drought tolerance. We present a method to screen large numbers of plants using digital imagery and glass plates. Eight seeds were germinated in paper within two glass plates in two rows and four columns. The location of the seed (row and column) within a glass plate did not affect the root angle measured using digital photography. The correlation of manually measured angles and angles estimated with a home made R script will be reported. The throughput, time cost and materials cost will be discussed.
