In the province of Ontario, Canada, biomass markets are emerging for conversion via combustion and gasification systems and for biofibres. The province of Ontario has a diverse climate and tolerance of a warm season perennial grass, such as miscanthus nedds to be evaluated. A series of field trials were initiated starting in 2008 across the province to evaluate genotypes of Miscanthus under different agronomic management systems. Genotypes consisted primarily of M. sacchariflorus x M. sinensis hybrids. Significant differences in cold tolerance, lodging, nitrogen response and biomass properties have been observed and will be presented.
