The purpose of this study was to better understand the ancient plaza activities of the Late Classic Maya at Kiuic, Mexico, through various soil studies. The soils in Kiuic were tested for specific elements associated with human activities in plazas and other public spaces. Systematic samplings of the soils were taken and prepared for testing. The Mehlich II phosphorus extraction, DTPA for heavy metals, and X-ray fluorescence analyses were performed on each of the samples. Geospatial and cluster analysis will be used to delineate possible areas of feasting and marketplace exchange involving workshop materials and food stuffs.
