Environmental Science Club Fundraising and Undergraduate Research: The Connection At Brigham Young University.

Students of the Environmental Science Club at Brigham Young University had a wonderful opportunity to both earn money for the club and be exposed to research in our department. The research involves comparing potato yeilds for different rates of traditional fertilizers versus environmentally smart nitrogen fertilizer or ESN. Field plots were located near Rupert, Idaho, and students aided in the harvest and data collection of the potatoes. In return, the club was paid for their labor. Students were able to serve and get a hands on approach in discovering what it is like to be involved in a research project. Brigham Young University heavily promotes undergraduate research, and this is one example of how students can get involved.
