Rice is typically delay-flooded and drill-seeded in southern US rice belt. However, shortage in water supply may potentially affect rice production in the area, especially in western Houston, TX. We conducted a greenhouse study to assess different water management practices including permanent flooding, alternative flooding, and saturated moisture effects on rice production. In this study, two varieties, Cocodrie and Rondo, have been evaluated using clay and sandy loam soils. The effects of water management, soil, and variety on rice yield and production were noticed.
