Strong interest exists in promoting methods that incorporate manures into no-till soils without significant disturbance. Methods such as manure injection significantly reduce ammonia volatilization, but their impact on other aspects of the nitrogen cycle have not been fully elucidated. We contrast the effects of broadcasting and injection dairy manure on acute emissions of nitrogen through ammonia volatilization and seasonal losses of nitrate via subsurface runoff.
