The next generation of agricultural producers wants to use data to drive decisions in their operations. The challenges are significant for exchanging data between machines, farm management information systems and decision support tools due to the lack of a common standard, incomplete implementation guidelines, data transfer protocols, message standards, and standard reference data. AgGateway, an industry consortium with representatives across the agricultural precision ag space identified applicable standards and is working to analyze gaps within the standards that are impeding data exchange. The team also demonstrated a proof of concept regarding message contents for data exchange between software/hardware systems building on the ISO11783 data standards and distributed databases. These efforts will lead to better interoperability between systems, improved data accuracy and enabling producers and their advisors to make informed decisions using precision ag data.
