Session Description: Competition for finite or declining water resources is growing. Deficit irrigation strategies can utilize unallocated water resources from dryland production-areas and water conservation practices to transform irrigation management. This symposium will feature research reports on deficit irrigation, residue management with dryland and irrigated crops, and crop rotations to optimize water productivity. Research on integrating dryland water conservation for use with alternative irrigation strategies provides a more holistic solution toward improved water productivity and optimal water resource allocation.
