Session Description: Mineralogy governs a soils’ ability to supply plant nutrients. The intensification of agricultural and silvicultural systems has given rise to concern regarding the sustainability of soil in these systems. It is often assumed that soil mineralogy is relatively insensitive to changes in land use because it is an inherent soil property. Recent evidence has challenged this tenet and shown that fertilization practices and biota can alter clay minerals. The purpose of this symposium is to explore how management impacts mineralogy in order to identify gaps in our understanding of how to produce food and fiber in a sustainable manner.
