Water is foremost among limited natural resources. Water limitations - regardless of source - affects food production, the economic activity generated by agricultural businesses, the economies of rural areas, and the decisions made by water customers - agricultural, residential, municipal, and others. Continued population growth and climate change will affect management of the water resource because of competitive uses. Developing regional water management schemes, and optimal demand management strategies will be critical, especially during periods of drought.
