Our work in precision agriculture at The Climate Corporation aims to help growers improve their operations and to do so in a sustainable manner through the development and implementation of decision support tools and equipment. Our technology is based on measurements, models and execution with continuing advancements in all of these areas. Our work in measurements is focused on obtaining and generating high quality data in ever-increasing volume from the environment, such as weather data and soil analysis, and from in-field and remote measurements of crop plants. Examples include the improvement of soil analysis through the development and implementation of new technologies in our Solum labs. Data from multiple measurements is used to develop predictive models of physical and biological processes, such as climatology, soil hydrology and crop phenology using the tools of data science. Multiple models are combined and integrated to create improved predictions of relevance to growers. Predictive and analytical tools are delivered to growers as decision support advisors and prescriptions through mobile apps and on the web. Examples include advisors related to planting, nitrogen application, field health and harvesting. Execution is enabled through improved equipment and software for planting through a variety of products developed by our Precision Planting group. Our research focuses on the improvement and seamless integration of measurements, models and execution to develop and deliver tools that will allow continued increases in productivity.
