Abstract:
To guage the understanding and concern of consumers for local food markets, organic products and sustainable agriculture methods, consumers were asked to complete a survey.  Students in AO327 Sustainable Agriculture surveyed consumers to identify key issues in marketing local foods.  Results were compiled for an idea of awareness of issues in sustainability of food systems.  Preliminary data show that a majority of consumer are aware of organic products, but many consumers choose not to purchase them.  Consumers were not fully aware of local food market options.  Data will be used to provide insight into educational programs concerning sustainable agriculture and connections to local producers in Southeast Missouri and surrounding regions.
