Abstract:
This study investigated the Clear Creek watershed of east central Iowa using a classical soil-stratigraphy approach of deep coring along hillslope transects coupled with extensive solum deep sampling in specific areas of interest. The stratigraphy of the area consists of Late Wisconsinan loess over a Yarmouth-Sangamon paleosol, which is formed in Pre-Illinoinan till. Thickness of loess on shoulders was more variable than expected although all sampled locations had at least a few centimeters of loess or loess-derived colluvium. Land use impacts on sola were significant especially with respect to Ksat.
