Abstract:
Several studies have shown that the Ni hyperaccumulating plant Alyssum murale takes up and partitions Mn in the basal compartments of the trichomes covering the plant surface. In this paper we assess the bioconcentration and translocation factors for Mn over a series of Ni:Mn ratios and determined the distribution and speciation of Mn using spectroscopic (synchrotron x-ray flourescence (SXRF), near-edge (XANES) and fine-structure (XAFS) spectroscpy's) and microscopic (SEM-EDX, light microscopy) tools.
