One of the key soil properties that can be managed for soil security is soil carbon. Spatial prediction of soil carbon over large spatial extents, > ~ 200 000 km 2, as a function of environmental covariates will be discussed. Where necessary, e.g., for improved management, such spatial predictions can be downscaled. Additionally simple prognostic models can be developed. Consideration is also given to monitoring in association with spatial prediction for updating and model validation. These points will be illustrated with examples from Australia and Indonesia
