A distributed temperature sensing system was used to investigate the spatial variations of temperature in an unsaturated soil cover system at a northern Alberta oil sand site. Installation methods are described. Results aid in the interpretation of the distribution of energy and water in cover systems. Physical and thermal properties are also discussed.
