Annual bluegrass is a common invader of creeping bentgrass golf fairways. As annual bluegrass seed builds in soil seed-banks, it quickly invades new creeping bentgrass fairway renovations. Renovations give turf managers the opportunity to start with a clean stand of creeping bentgrass and begin annual bluegrass control measures before it becomes a large part of the polystand. A trial was initiated to screen popular annual bluegrass control products for safety on new creeping bentgrass seedings when applied on the day of seeding. Eight and nine products were applied in the fall season of 2010 and 2011, respectively, and creeping bentgrass tolerance and annual bluegrass control were measured thereafter.
