Across much of the country the clientele that visit research station are traditional agriculturalists seeking ideas, techniques and developments that will help them continue to operate in a financially sound, environmentally friendly and sociologically acceptable manner. Although have some difference in their interests, other persons in the regions around research stations are looking for entertainment, development of their hobbies and the ability to follow their passion for projects involving the outdoors. Multiple public and private events take place at the University of Missouri research centers that attract persons who are only slightly knowledgeable about agriculture. This paper will describe some of these events, how people are drawn to the event and the intended “take home message” organizers try to convey.
