261 Coupled Soil Mechanical and Hydraulic Processes In Structured Soils

Oral Session
S01 Soil Physics This symposium aims to further understanding of processes in structured soils through research that quantifies soil structure, preferential flow of mass through soil structure, and the formation and degradation of soil structure. One process that can alter soil structure and function is soil compaction, which causes aggregate and/or particle rearrangement, alters pore continuity, and changes accessibility and tensorial functions of corresponding soil properties. Another process of interest includes expansive soils where wetting and drying cycles cause changes in macro and micro pore structure and function, unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, and stability.
