Over the first 10 years of Dow Chemical and Dow AgroSciences using Lean Six Sigma methodology, project leaders delivered more than $10B in verified Earnings before Interest and Taxes (EBIT). Over 75,000 continuous improvement projects were completed many of them for reducing process cycle times, streamlining processes, reducing waste, eliminating rework, and gaining efficiencies in not just manufacturing but also in Research and Commercial functions. A consistent language for Continuous Improvement has been established across all businesses and functions around the world. Customer satisfaction, retention and loyalty have been improved. Capital spending has been reduced while increasing capacity and capabilities. Background information regarding the definition and practice of Lean Six Sigma along with its application to agricultural research in both the private and public sector will be presented.
