Biochar usage as a soil amendment and as a bionergy source has gained global attention.  In the past few years, scientists and policy makers have published numerous research and review articles evaluating feedstocks conversion into amendments for soil health enhancement, material to increase soil carbon sequestration, and as ways to generate energy.  However, biochar is expensive, feedstocks can be area limited, and there are looming questions that challenge if biochar production can meet an expected world demand and produce a lower-cost product.  This seminar was arranged to bring together major biochar producers, biochar associations, and scientists to comment on the sustainability of biochar production in different geographic areas and the affordability of their biochar product.
