Ammonium Sulfate Nitrate (Fûsn) (26-0-0-14.5) Is a New Dry Fertilzer Product Available for Grower Use in 2014.

Ammonium Sulfate Nitrate (Fûsn) is a newly developed N fertilizer that allow growers to have low-detonable replacement for ammonium nitrate (AN). It is produced by reacting two salts ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate into a new 2:1 double salt of ammonium sulfate nitrate (CAS # 12398-89-9). As a result Fûsn has distinct chemical and physical properties different from either of the two molecules from which it is made.  This material is being manufactured from a newly engineered plant developed by Honeywell and operated by the J.R. Simplot Company in Lathrop CA. This material is a unique compound that is an effective fertilizer with much lower explosive properties compared to AN allowing it to be much safer than AN. This paper describes the materials properties as well as its agronomic use under several field examples. It appears that Fûsn will be a tremendous asset for crop production and an improved efficiency N fertilzer without the concerns of alternative uses.
