Abstract Hydrology is recognized to regulate soil biogeochemical process in forested wetlands. However, the ramifications of tidally mediated hydrology are seldom considered. Tidally influenced forested wetlands exist in coastal areas. Those tidal waters may be either fresh or brackish. The interactions of tidal dynamics, water chemistry and biogeochemical dynamics within the forest have only recently been a focus of investigations. In this paper will explore the tidal influences in both freshwater tidal streams and use mangroves as the example for marine forests.
