In this talk, we will discuss the historical and current objectives specified in Soil Taxonomy and propose additional objectives for our soil taxonomic system to serve the diversity of user needs. We will then assess whether Soil Taxonomy is currently fulfilling these current and proposed objectives. We will pay particular attention to the integration of Soil Taxonomy with new technologies such as geospatial analyses.
