The initial growth and mineral nutrition of teak (Tectona grandis) as a function of P fertilization was investigated. The transplanting of seedlings was carried out in plastic pots filled with 50 dm3 of a Rhodic Hapludox, under a plastic greenhouse. In addition to a control treatment, the dosages of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg dm-3 P were tested. The results demonstrated that P fertilization improved all teak growth characteristics showing the importance of this nutrient for the species.
