Robert G. Hoeft, University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, Mahomet, IL
Dr. Larry Bundy was born near the small town of Red Bud in Southern Illinois, not far from the banks of the Mississippi in 1943.  He received his BS and MS from the University of Illinois and his PhD from Iowa State University in Soil Science.  He began his career in Soil Science with Libby Corporation in 1973 and completed his career in academia as Professor of Soil Fertility Extension/Applied Research over the period 1982 to 2007 in the Soil Science Department, University of Wisconsin.  He was longtime member of the Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition Division.  Dr. Bundy passed away in July 2013 after a long and distinguished career.

Dr. Bundy epitomized the cliché, a scholar and gentleman.  As a scholar, Larry’s work advanced science and developed solutions for problems impacting society.  His work was sought out by government agencies, individual producers, and environmental groups.  As a gentleman, Larry was a great listener, no matter if the person was a novice or highly skilled professional in the subject.  His ability to listen to others provided ideas for new projects.  Dr. Bundy was a prolific writer and communicator.  He published his work in scientific journals and also made sure that it was distributed via extension publications or presentations to those that could use the material to make the world a better place to live.
