307 Towards More Impactful Soil Maps with Explicit Uncertainty Assessment: I (includes student competition)
Oral Session
SSSA Division: PedologyPrediction uncertainty is inevitable in digital soil mapping and modeling (DSMM) due to model inadequacy, parameter uncertainty, input data errors etc. Uncertainty assessment has received increasing attention and is one of the essential components of digital soil products. Users of DSMM products may need to be informed and educated on how to assimilate the uncertainty information into their endeavors. The goals of this session are to: 1) present and discuss the development and application of state-of-the-art methodologies in DSMM uncertainty assessment, and 2) discuss how to effectively communicate the uncertainty of soil predictions to DSMM product users.
