288 Symposium--Impact of Genetic Engineering on the Forage and Turf Industries
Oral Session
C05 Turfgrass ScienceThis symposium will provide an overview on the potential impact of genetic engineering in the forage and turfgrass industries. Why have genetically engineered cultivars become widely adopted in most major agronomic crops, but not in forages or turf? What traits are in development? Are there GE cultivars ready to be commercialized? What special considerations should be taken into account during the production, cleaning, and distribution of GE grasses? What would be the ecological impacts of gene flow? Given that herbicide tolerance is the most important GE trait in these crops, what do we know about evolution of herbicide resistance?
