Abstract:
Soil Survey is one of the most valuable spatial datasets in the United States, yet investments to promote the inventory the soil resource in new and more comprehensive ways has not fully emerged. The expert user population for soil survey information remains relatively small yet the needs for this information are growing. This talk will explore a variety of soil survey technologies including our perspective on the application of digital soil modeling, progress made in making soil survey more accessible to a diverse user group, and existing barriers that may slow the adoption of soil survey across a variety of users. We will explore how soil survey can contribute to modern societal issues and showcase current decision support tools that promote the use of soil survey.
