Abstract:
CornSoyWater (http://cornsoywater.unl.edu) is web app that makes real-time irrigation recommendation for corn and soybean fields. For the corn part, it uses real-time weather data, user specified field and crop information and in-season irrigation records. It estimates current soil water balance, crop stage and crop water stress using a robust simulation model. Besides the traditional irrigation triggering based on water depletion threshold (e.g., 50%) of total available soil water, it also uses crop water stress as a part of the triggering scheme. Crop water stress is quantified by comparison of crop transpiration demand against soil water supply. Results of CornSoyWater simulation were validated by comparing with the observed soil water balance. The CornSoyWater runs on daily time step. It provides not only time series graphic outputs on soil water balance and crop stage, but also up-to-date field summary. CornSoyWater mobile app can be downloaded from Apple Store and Google Play.
