Abstract:
Traditionally, most data in agriculture comes from small-scale field trials, which are expensive to run, or survey data collected by the government, which are aggregated to coarse spatial resolutions.  However, recent years have produced a boom in agricultural data, ranging from subfield maps of nutrient and seed application, subfield yield maps and high-resolution satellite imagery.  As more and more data becomes available, there is a growing need for agronomists and farmers to pair with data scientists to understand the unique characteristics of their fields and utilize these learnings to increase global crop yield while maintaining or reducing inputs.  In this talk I will discuss how The Climate Corporation uses Big Data to create decision support tools that provide unique insights and enable farmers to better manage their operations.
