2015 has been designated as the “International Year of Soils” by the United Nations in special recognition of the vital role this natural resource provides to civilization and mankind. As part of this year-long celebration, the Soil Science Society of America is presenting twelve separate monthly themes highlighting the critical services and uses that soil provides for life to exist and function. The theme for the month of May is “Soils for Building & Infrastructure”. This poster presentation is an overview of the critical role soil provides for basic building materials, foundation support, and its’ ability to naturally treat and recycle water, wastewater, nutrients, and organic matter.
