In order to examine the effect of calcium on salt and cold resistance during seed germination stage of Medicago polymorpho an experiment was conducted in the laboratory of the Agronomy College Pardis Agriculture of TehranUniversity. The seeds were sterilized and incubated in the presence of one concentration of CaCl2 (5, 10, 15, or 20 mM) at 20 °C.
After 24h the seeds were transferred to one concentration of NaCl and incubated at 5 or 15 °C for two week in germination chamber. Then the seed germination percentage, number of normal and abnormal seedling, fresh, dry weight and length of root and shoot, and their ratios were determined. Results of the analysis of variance showed that the treatments and their interaction significantly influenced all measured parameters. The results indicated that calcium has a significant effect on the reduction the effect of stress condition during seed germination.
