Alternative use of grain corn (Zea Mays L.) to meet the global demand for biofuels requires revisit the option of continuous corn monoculture. A field experiment with corn treated with fertilizer or manure was conducted as continuous monoculture or in a corn-soybean biannual rotation for 15 yrs. Grain yield, N uptake and grain N removal balance factor were determined each year. Yield stability and nitrogen use efficiency of continuous corn monoculture under well fertilized conditions were compared with rotational corn. Implications of soil amendment and cropping sequence on long-term sustainable corn production system will be discussed.
