A BioBlitz is a rapid assessment of the species living in a particular area at a given time and is usually conducted over a 24 hour period.  Scientists team up to identify all living things in an area.  This event is a great way to interest the community in science.  Community members get to watch scientists at work in the Midwest, instead of on TV in the rain forest.  A detailed inventory of species for the site is another incentive for conducting a BioBlitz.  The data collected can help when making management decisions for a property.  The challenge of these events is organizing and coordinating scientists and volunteers.
