Augmented experiment designs (AED) are a class of designs introduced by Federer (1956, 1961, and 1991) as an alternative to systematic check arrangements.  AED are useful for experiments which involve screening of material where a range of conditions are expected.  An AED is obtained by selecting a basic experiment design (CRD, RCD, IBD) for checks and enlarging the block to accommodate the new treatments, which appear only once in the experiment.  Examples will be given to demonstrate the construction of various versions of AED, and examples of analysis will be presented using the MIXED and/or GLIMMIX procedures in SAS.  The presentation of designs and statistical analysis code and results is intended to introduce researchers to the appropriate hypothesis testing and possible interpretations with utilizing AED.
