509-1 Popcorn: A Commodity, Teaching Tool, and Great Snack.

The Agronomy club uses Popcorn as an integral part of our various projects. It’s a commodity for us as we sell “Agronopop”, our special black and gold popcorn blend, to help fund our yearly travels and programs.  It is used in our education outreach programs to teach students of all ages some basics in genetics, plants and digestion and agricultural crops.  The smell of popped corn always brings people into our tent where we give ample bag away, which sheds a good light on agriculture and allows the public to learn more about agronomy at our annual University Spring Fest. Popcorn is an excellent recruiting tool because students are always hungry. We put a friendly face on agronomy in a very subtle way by providing free popcorn to anyone passing through the third floor hall.  This includes our own undergraduate and graduate students, staff and faculty, not to mention any student attending a class across the hall.
