2008 Joint Annual Meeting (5-9 Oct. 2008): How to Get High School Students Interested in Science.

This is a question many teachers have been asking for a long time.  We are trying numerous types of activities in and out of the classroom.  Most students learn with activities they can touch or manipulate.  Teachers have some of the following resources to draw from: Project Wild and Aquatic Wild activities, Project Learning Tree activities, lab activities from environmental science and aquatic science.  We are also using the Cooperative Extension Service leaders and local Agri-Science teachers as resources for our classes. 

The discussion for this talk will be about some of the advantages and disadvantages these types of labs create for teachers.  We will also discuss some of the ways to solve the disadvantages and give teachers more choices for their classes.
