2008 Joint Annual Meeting (5-9 Oct. 2008): Betty Klepper CSSA Endowed Lectureship: Agriculture, Climate Change Mitigation and Biofuels: Economic Explorations

Agriculture is highly dependent on the climate and as such is otentially vulnerable to climate change.  Furthermore climate change is virtually inevitable and as such requires agricultural production to adapte.  Finally agriculture can play a role in reducing net emissions by increasing sequestration or reducing emissions. Biofuels is one of the potential key itigation strategies.
Collectively then agriculture is affected by the prospects of climate change through effects, adaptation and mitigation. This paper reports on a largley economic research program that is designed to explore these issues and their implications for the future of agriculture and the welfare of US consumers, US producers and foreign interests.
