Successful networking is important for students as they transition from college into full-time careers.  Recognizing this, the Iowa State Agronomy Club hosted a new networking event for students.  The first “I’m An Agronomist Career Mixer” was held in Curtiss Hall on October 12th, 2009 and was opened to all interested students.  This new event focused on providing students the opportunity to meet with potential employers in the field of agriculture.  During the event students were able to meet with five different companies and ask questions, learn about employment opportunities (internships and full-time), and network with fellow agronomists.  The evening included company introductions and a Q & A panel.  Afterwards, students were given time to meet with the company representatives.  The “I’m An Agronomist Career Mixer” was successful in helping students network within the agriculture community and explore potential career opportunities, especially summer internships.  The Career Mixer was met with positive feedback from both students and company representatives.  The Agronomy Club is looking to make the “I’m An Agronomist Career Mixer” an annual event.
