Our research is intending to close the gap between glyphosate use and effects on soil microbial communities by using labeled glyphosate. Two glyphosate formulations (Powermax/Monsanto and Cornerstone/Agrisolutions) are spiked with 13C glyphosate. A greenhouse experiment was set up in January 2010 where corn and soybean are grown in rhizoboxes and glyphosate is applied multiple times a year. Soil samples are being collected in the rhizophere and analyzed by extracting phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) and performing Fusarium-specific PCR. Data analysis is in progress. 13C PLFA data and Fusarium diversity will be presented and discussed.
