Jerry C. Ritchie (1937 – 2009) made significant contributions to the advancement of soil, environmental, and ecological sciences over the last 42 years, while working at ARS.  An overview will be given of his work including; using Cesium 137 to estimate soil erosion and sediment deposition, using an airborne laser to study landscape topography, and using native vegetation to control soil loss.
