Publicity about local food systems has grown dramatically over the last decade.  The discourse on its concepts and practices have consequently increased in diverse academic and professional fields. What environmental, food and agricultural trends have motivated this broad interest?  What are the benefits and challenges of local food systems? This presentation will address these issues, particularly the ways in which local food systems are addressing community food insecurity. We will describe examples of local food systems initiatives and some of their impacts.  We will conclude with recommendations for future research and community action
