A single location, three year test was conducted near Ardmore, OK, from 2008-2010 to determine the effects of five nitrogen (N) rates (0, 50, 100, 200 and 300 lb/acre) on yield of seven varieties of bermudagrass and two varieties of Old World Bluestem (OWB). Four seeded bermudagrass varieties and three vegetatively propagated bermudagrass varieties were tested. There were significant differences among varieties at given N rates. B Dahl variety of OWB outyielded Plains at all N rates except the untreated check. Common, Cheyenne and Wrangler had similar yields at all N rates except 300 lb/N per acre. The blending of Giant variety with Common increased yields over Common alone at all N rates except 50 lb/N per acre. Tifton 85 was the top yielding variety in the test at all N rates. There was no difference in yield of Midland 99 and Coastal at any N rate. In general, the hybrid varieties of bermudagrass and B Dahl variety of OWB outyielded the seeded varieties of bermudagrass and Plains variety of OWB when N rates of 100 lb/acre or more were applied.
