Demonstrating a variety of soil profiles to students without digging pit or augering many holes is problematic.  USDA-NRCS developed a method to create mini-monoliths to help overcome this problem.  This presentation illustrates several changes to the USDA-NRCS method.  It also shows how this demonstration/experiment could be used to teach about geography, scale, and color thus expanding soil concepts into other non-traditional areas of education.
