115 Micro- and Macro-Scale Water Dynamics In Unsaturated Soil Mechanics and Porous Media

S01 Soil Physics Soil mechanical properties affect many agricultural and environmental processes, from root penetration and infiltration to slope stability and erosion potential. Many measurement and modeling techniques in traditional soil physics could be applied to soil mechanics. Expertise can therefore be shared between groups, avoiding unnecessary duplication. The goal of this session is to better connect the soil mechanics and soil physics communities, discuss methods that are common to both disciplines, and promote crossover between the communities to improve the quality of solutions. We are particularly interested in research findings that combine innovative measurement techniques and numerical modeling to address real-world problems.
