310 Advances In Bioremediation and Ecosystem Restoration

ASA Section: Environmental Quality Contamination of soils, surface waters, and ground waters from both point and non-point source pollution is an environmental concern. Methods are needed to remediate these soils and waters and to restore ecosystems. This session seeks presentations focused on bioremediation techniques such as vegetated buffer systems, use of vegetation and/or microbes to remediate contaminated soils or groundwater, and biological techniques such as floating vegetated mats or use of algae for treating and improving the quality of surface waters. Advances in in situ and ex situ bioremediation technologies (e.g., land farming, bioreactor, composting, bio-augmentation, bio-stimulating, phytoremediation, etc.) now offer the prospect of site and/or contaminant specific restoration prescriptions.
