165 Future Frontiers in Soil Science

S11 Soils & Environmental Quality Soil Science embodies principles of solid-phase interactions in complex systems. Where soil science professionals were at one time focused on problems of agricultural significance, the knowledge and skills of the modern soil scientist are highly valued in environmental science for elucidating the behavior of contaminants in natural systems. It is becoming increasingly realized that failures to properly model the risk of contaminants is linked to poor understanding of soil science. This symposium addresses future directions of soil science and its perceived wide applicability to a number of different areas of environmental and technological significance.
