Session Description: Biochar may have beneficial primary or secondary effects on soil properties and plant yields, reduce soil greenhouse gas emissions, and be useful sorbent for metals, pesticides, and other agrochemicals. Biochar agronomic impacts have focused on biotic and abiotic factors following land application. However, further research is needed to further elucidate mechanisms and develop guidelines for biochar utilization, as not all biochars are created equal; individual biochars may address different soil constraints. This topical session brings together scientists focused on all facets of biochar research, to generate discussion of results and provide a forum to mold future directions of collaborative investigation.
