Session Description: Environmental pollution is a major global issue that has major impacts on soil/water/air quality, food safety, climate change, and human health. Resolution of these challenges requires joint efforts of international communities. Research collaborations between U.S. and China have increased in the last five years at various levels to address a number of these environmental challenges. However, most of the current collaborations involve individual scientists or academic institutes without in many cases, organizational coordination and/or governmental involvement. The objectives of this symposium are to provide an overview of current research collaborations and mechanisms for strengthening joint efforts to more effectively address environmental challenges. In this symposium, six prominent scientists, who have been actively involved in U.S.-Sino Research Collaborations in agriculture and environment, will be invited to present keynote talks on their experience, accomplishments, and vision. The outcomes are expected to enhance U.S.-Sino research collaborations and to increase the impact of tri-society involvement, particularly the U.S.- Sino Agricultural Research Forum Community, international joint efforts.
